At thirteen, he was fixing minibikes and soda machines. By his twenties, he was the youngest technician at a Volkswagen dealership, introducing repair methods that seasoned mechanics soon copied. In 1983, he opened his own collision-and-mechanical repair shop — one that grew into a nationally recognized business before he sold it to a larger chain.
